TILE THOUGH WINDOW
JEWELLERY SHOP RAID
' TWO WATCHES TAKEN j i '. (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, last night, A smash-nnd : gral:> raid on the jewellery shop of Mr. T. H. Martin in Kymonds street was carried out shortly after midnight on Friday, but with only minor success. The main front plate grass window of the. shop was intact at midnight, but not long after, it was broken by someone who threw a piece of tile through it. Tho tilo struck the window rather high up, making a hole about fiiu>. in diameter, through which it, was somewhat difficult to reach the shelves on which jewellery of considerable value was displayed. As is the custom in most jeweller'.s shops, most of the valuable articles had been removed from the window at night, but, had the tile .shattered the window, instead of merely making a hole, watches, rings, and other jewellery could have easily been taken. Only two watches of a combined value of under £5 wore taken.
