FOOD STILL TOO DEAR
VIEW OF SIR J. PARR NUTRITION PROBLEMS GENEVA, Oct, 2, The Second Committee of the League of Nations to-day resumed discussion on nutrition. Sir .lames Parr, the New Zealand representative, declared that the most satisfactory way to attack the problem was along the line of increasing purchasing power. New Zealand had restored wages to the pre-depression level, while reducing hours. Pood, however, was still too dear owing to inefficient distribution, and too many unnecessary middlemen handling Dominion produce. For instance, New Zealand apples costing 8d per lb. in Europe -brought the grower only Id per lb. The League’s valuable work on nutrition should not be used as an excuse for individual Governments delaying action. It was gratifying to find that a number of Governments had already realised their obligations.
