TEACHER FAREWELLED

A. very jolly social anil dance look place on Wednesday evening in the Y/.M.C.A. Hall in Bartlett's, given by llie school committee as a farewell to Miss 1). Duncan, assistant mistress at the JBartlett's .School, who is leaving the district shortly to commence her new duties at the Mangapapa School. .Miss Duncan has been at Bartlett's for over two years and during that time has endeared lierself to the children, as well as their parents, and they are all very sorry she is leaving. She has seen the number of children grow rapidly, from about 60 when she came to over 100 at present. There were many parents present, and also a number of' children from the nearby camps. These children, under the guidance of Mr. F. Kmniett, their headmaster, danced several folk dances, which I hey had been well taught, Miss Duncan played the piano for the folk dances. Several other items were given by the children. Blossom Walker played aii accordion solo. Iris Cameron recited, ami the schoolboy Mouth organ band gave some items. Dance music was played by members of the camp orchestra—Messrs. D. Blair, Ularo brothers. Eru Tawhari, and Pilkington. Messrs. O. Torrie and K. Borst carried out the duties of M.O.S.

After supper, which was provided by the ladies, the chairman of Bartlett's School Committee, Mr. F. Milroy, voiced tr. 3 sorrow of all at Miss Duncan's departure, but added that all would wish her the best of luck in her new position. Fie then called Miss L. Hood, senior pupil of the school, to hand to Miss Duncan the children's farewell gift, which was a beautifully bound volume of Shakespeare's works. The parents" present was a handbag, and the school committee's gift was a gold mounted pen and pencil in a case. Mr. W. Matanga, secretary of the committee. presented Miss Duncan with a small Maori kit, being a gift from the Maoris of the district. Miss Duncan suitably replied, thanking the children, the parents, both pakeha and Maori, and the committee for their gifts and the splendid farewell party. The chairman thanked all those who had helped the committee to make the evening so enjoyable. Miss M. W." Boole will take Miss Duncan's place at Bartlett's School.
