TRANSPORT LICENSES
CARRIAGE OF GOODS
EXEMPTIONS AMENDED
As the result of amendment to the Transport Goods Order, 1936, recently gazetted in an Ordcr-in-Council, the position in regard to the exemption from licensing of certain goods services has been altered.
Under the new order, the former exemption of goods services, within six miles radius of the principal post office in any borough or town district is replaced by an exemption for six miles radius from the- principal post office of any one of the following boroughs: Whangarei, Hamilton, Rotorua, Gisborne, Napier, Hastings, New Plymouth, Wanganui, Palmerston North, Masterton, Nelson, Greymouth, Timaru, Oamaru, Invercargill. The Commissioner of Transport has ■advised transport licensing authorities that the present position of exemption is, that all goods services are exempted which run entirely within the four exempted areas about the main centres, or within six miles radius of the principal post office of the above boroughs or entirely within the boundaries of any single borough or town district. Exemption also applies to services connected solely with funerals, the delivery ot newspapers or the repair and removal of damaged vehicles. It is further explained that a goods service, license is not required fur goods carried on a licensed passenger service. With the exceptions mentioned, a goods service license is required for any goods .-civile performed for hire or reward by anv motor-vehicle. Further exemptions will he investigated by the Minister of Transport, the Hon. il. Seniplc in the near future.
