ORDER OF RECHABITES

JUVENILE TENT TEMPERANCE ADDRESS The fortnightly meeting of the Gisborne Juvenile Rechabites was. held last evening in the Selvyn Hall, there being i large attendance of members. Bro. 'Rodney McGregor, C.R., was m the chair. Two candidates were accepted tor initiation into the tent, and, being present, they were initiated. The members roll showed that up to the present, 81 new members had been admitted this year and with a further two months to go the chances for the "Rash" Shield looked promising. The tent is hoping to hold this coveted trophy for a further term. The superintendent briefly addressed 'the members, congratulating them on ! their .success with the recent sale oi work and with the dances they had held. She said never for a moment must it be forgotten that the tent stood tor truth and temperance, the motto of the juvenile order. With that in mind, she spoke on "The Moderate Drinker as a stumbling block to Temperance." it was shown that the man who got really drurik on one day every three months did far less harm to himself than the man who took only a pint or two a day and never really got drunk at all. The drinking of alcoholic liquor was regarded as a social evil. Concluding a long address, the superintendent said : "From whichever single the problem is studied, it is not the hopeless drunkard who is the stumbling block in the way' of prohibition, but the moderate drinker." After the meeting had been closed by the-C.lt., the members enjoyed a dance programme until 9.30 p.m. Sister Elliott was at the piano.
