TORONTO 1 . Ang. 13,

A baby was born here, to-dav —a 91b. girl—who may earn her mother many thousands of pounds, although the baby drew her first breath in a. household which lias been, on relief for three years. For Mrs. John Nagle, the mother, is one of the leading contestants in the Toronto stork marathon.

Under the will of Mr. Charles Vance Millar, bachelor and eccentric lawyer, £IOO,CCO is to go to the Toronto mother who has most children between October 31, 1926, and October 31, 1936. Up to yesterday the leader was Mrs. Arthur Timlcck with 10 children born within the, marathon period. Nine of them are still alive. Now Mrs. Nagle has had her tenth child, so she ties with the loader, but there are still more than 11 weeks to go and five more mothers are anxiously expecting babies. At least three of them are hoping for twins. Mrs. Nagle’s baby has disappointed her mother, for she said recently that, she was sure she was going to have more, than one bahv. With hope in. her eyes she said. “L think I may even have quads.” N PLANS FOR LIVING

She was a pathetic little woman as the writer sat- talking to her on the verandah of her poor house after a day when the temperature had! soared above 100. She had mapped out careers for all her children. The verandah, was covered with a mass of milk bottles, for her family of 14—she' had five before the marathon began—drink eight quarts of milk a day, eat eight loaves of bread and half a peck of potatoes. Leaders in the marathon to-day xvith the. last lap of 11 weeks to go, are: Mrs. John Nagle, wife of a sick unemployed carpenter —10 children, all alive.

Mi’s. Arthur Timleck, wife of a ship yard worker—lo children, nine alive.

Mrs. Matthew Kenny, French Canadian. wife of an unemployed Irishmannine registered, six alive, confidently expecting twins. _ Mrs. Grace Bagnato, wife of an Italian interpreter —nine children, three alive, expecting another. All the children count, dead or alive, provided they are. registered.
