MOA RELICS WANTED
(To Hie Editor of the Herald.) Sir, —1 should like to make an appeal lo the public on. behalf of the Hawke’s liny Museum. Napier. There arc in the museum a large number of mon. bones but. unfortunately, only one incomplete skeleton of the great, bird. All the other 'museums possess many fine specimens and although niniiy have been found in this province they have all go; no elsewhere. All we have are. a great number of individual bones, most •y leg* bones mill comparntivelv few complete* .legs. The appeal I wish to make is that if anyone tomes across the remains . of this bird while ploughing, draining, o r excavating tlie land, lie would let me or- the curator know as soon as possible and , meanwhile, to leave the bones midisturbi id. This last part, is very important since the skeleton has to lie. excavated and rrrjnoved with the, greatest patience and care, and rcqiiires some scientific knowledge. If, therefore, anyone conies net oss or knows of any mon, remains, he «si n do a great service to the museum. The museum authorities will undertake' ’’ to arrange for (lie excavation if necessary .—Yours, etc., K. E. CROMTf -TON, M.R., Havelock North,
