At last night’s meeting of the executive. the secretary. Mr. V. nutlet 1 , reported that he had telegraphed' Run iiine of Poverty Bay’s success in securing (lie Lady Carroll Shield from Maiioa, and stating that next, Saturday was the only available date for the Jiualiiiic challenge. The telegram also asked for an immediate reply for that evening’s meeting, hut none had been received.

Final arrangements for Saturday’s matches were left with the chairman, Mr. 11. Le Ras, and the secretary. A Napier ladies’ team had agreed to play in Gisborne, but until the Runtime reply was received it would be impossible to say which team Napier would play. The- Old Girls club from Wairoa also would play a Gisborne team, while the Waiau men’s team from Frasertown would play Caledonian. Mrs. D. Turbitt, chaperon of the Poverty Bay ladies’ team which travelled to Wairoa on Saturday, and Mr. J. Turbitt, manager, submitted a report on the trip and game, and were complimented on the success of their arrangements and also on the performance of the team. Mr. P. Jones, manager of the men’s teams which visited Hawke’s Bay, also submitted a report stating that the trip had been a pleasant one and the games good, although Poverty Bay was defeated in both. The secretary reported that the Defence team which visited Napier also had been defeated by the Sciiule club hv three goals to one. LADY CARROLL SHIELD RECORD OP MATCHES Seventeen challenge matches have been played for the Lady Carroll Shield since Poverty Bay acquired it.,in 1924. Poverty Bay lost the trophy to the first challengers, Ruahine, who withstood 10 challenges over a period of seven years. Since then the trophy has changed hands four times, twice coming to Poverty Bay. In the last two year’s, Wairoa, has won two matches and retained the shield on a third occasion by drawing with Napier, while Poverty Bay has won two.
