FAREWELL EVENING

The residents of Mat awn i and surrounding districts tendered u farewell card evening to Mr. and Mrs. C. Dower, who left Matawai on Saturday morning for their new home at AVaihirere.

The function took place*on Friday evening in the Women’s .Institute Hall. Considering the short notice given, there was a good attendance. Mr. C. W. Korto was in charge of the euchre tournament, in which the winners were Mrs. A. E. (libson and Alt'. It. Tipn. A delicious supper was pro.vided by the ladies present. During the 'evening Mr. It. W. Wilson voiced the thanks of residents to Mr. Dower for the wav in which he bad attended to the railway business for the settlers, stating! that- under his jurisdiction everything ran smoothly. Nothing was too much trouble for him or for. Mrs. Dower in attending the railway telephone business, lie asked Mr. Dower to accept a cheque as a token of esteem from the settlers. Mr. Do v.'er suitably responded on behalf of himself and Mrs. I.lower, and belli were accorded, musical honours.
