£24 RAISED FOR GUILD

The annual spring flower show organFed by fit. Paul’s Ladies’ Guild and hold in the. Modi Hall on Saturday was again an unqualified success. 'I he entries in the floral sections totalled 87, and with cooking, sewing and photography the grand total of 239 entries was reached.

Commenting on the blooms, the judge, Miss M. Barron, said that they were very fine and the first-placed long trumpet'daffodils, grown by Mrs. I*. Sinton, Te Went, were exceptional, hi the. decorative class Miss Barron said that she had great difficulty in selecting, the winning entries, all being very atlractiie and artistic.

The cooking judges, Mesdames F. femton and C. G, Fieider. remarked on the excellent display and high quality of the entries. . . An apologv for absence was received from the Rev'. .1. D. Hodgson, .who is m hospital, Mr. U, G. Anderson capably fulfilling the duties of judge m the photographic section. Mrs. -N. C«. Harctnig? judge of the needlework section, iound some of the work not- up to show standard. Miss P. Twisleton's entries, however, were, good and the work well finished. Mesdames H. C. Boys and W. Garron did good business at a, sale ot work, and Mrs. J. Donaldson and Miss B. Fisher were kept busy at ail attractively arranged sweets stall. I lie children were entered for in a novel manner by the “Lady with the Hundred Pockets,” every 2iocket of her early Victorian gown containing a surprise parcel. The stewards were :—Floral, Mesdames R. 8. Fisher and A. R. Pierce; cooking, Mesdames F. J. Read and A. E. Legge; sewing, Mrs. Clegg: photography, Miss P Tivisleton: tearoom, Mesdames H. L. Twisleton. \Y. .1-. Reid, T. R.. Tyermati, N. G. Nisbett, and G. Hutchins. In the evening an enjoyable dance was held and the prizes won during the day were preseted by the president, Mrs. R. S. Fisher. Mr.' A. Tt. Pierce paid a tribute to the members of the guild, stating that the show had been a great, success financially, the gross takings being £24. The exhibits were iif a higher standard and there was a general improvement in the quality. Great credit’ was due to the president, rwid the secretary. Miss P. Twisleton. A special vole of thanks was passed to Mrs. Twisleton, undk" whose capable management an excellent luncheon aiul afternoon tea .had been provided. Mr. Pierce also thanked the judges, whose decisions were popular, although their tasks had not, been easy. Mrs. W. Biirborough was the musician for dancing, extras being played by Mrs, F. M.
