SHORTAGE OF LABOUR
NEW GOVERNMENT SCHEME TRAINING IN WORKSHOPS (Per Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, last night. The Government intends to establish special workshops for the training of young men in skilled trades according' to a statement made by the Minister of Employment, the lion. 11. T. Armstrong, in an interview today. “We are already beginning to feel the shortage of skilled labour in certain lines,” said the Minister, “and I am afraid that, before long, the shortage will be very seriously felt. At the same time, there are thousands of promising young men who, with a short course of training, perhaps half as long as might be required for the ordinary type, could be turned out. as fairly skilled workmen. “The Government is giving very serious consideration to that .aspect of the training of youths. We are even going to the extent ot. establishing workshops for training in skilled trades, especially the building trade. That; is the Government’s intention at prosont.
