STRIKES IN SINGAPORE
CHINESE LABOURERS HIGHER PAY DEMANDED SINGAPORE, Sept. 19. Minor strikes among Chinese, building workers and pineapple factory workers during the. week resulted on Thursday in a demonstration in Lho centre of Singapore. The police charged with batons and the fire brigade turned on a hose. There were more strikes on Friday afternoon. Over 2000 labourers at the Royal Air Force base joined the strikers, who are demanding more pay and less work and the formation of a union.
