CARTERTON BURGLARIES
POUR DURINGr NIGHT TOTAL OF £lB TAKEN (Ter Pross Association.) CARTERTOX, this day. Four burglaries took place in Carterton last night. Tho premises of the Wairarapa Daily News was entered by forcing a side door with a jemmy. All drawers in.the office desks were opened and the till forced, and the safe was opened. Papers and documents were strewn everywhere. The sum of £7 in cash and a cheque were taken, besides railway stamps. The adjacent premises, occupied by Messrs. Masson and Company, implement works, were also entered. The safe was not touched, but. about £1 10s in loose cash was taken. An entry to the premises of the South Wairarapa Motors, Limited, was ■made through a small door in the main doors. The till was wrenched open, and a show case was smashed. The sum of £3 17,s was taken.
A side door of the premises of ITughans, Limited, was forced with a jemmy. A cash register was smashed and a, smaller register was opened without damage. The sum of I'll was collected. Again all the ofti.ee files were strewn round the room.
