"A TOUGH JOB"

ORGANISING FARMERS NEW POLICY ADOPTED The Poverty Bay provincial executive of the Farmers' Union has decided on a more vigorous policy for the purpose of unifying the farmers of the district in the work of the union. This was done at the meeting of the executive yesterday afternoon on the suggestion of the "organiser, Mr. I. S. Gardiner, who this week commenced w.ork in the district under the new plan of organisation decided on by the Dominion conference last year. Mr. Gardiner stated-that it was "a tough job" organising farmers. He had found that to be so in the Hawke's Bay and Wairoa districts, and the impressions gained this week on his introduction to the Gisborne district led him to believe that he was up against the same problem here. However, his work in Hawke's Bay resulted in 11 now branches being formed and the membership being doubled. He sought the assistance of the provincial executive in his work in the Gisborne district. He proposed that four sub-committees should be appointed, one of shcepfarmers, one of dairy farmers, ,one for publicity purposes, and an organising committee. These committees,' Mr. Gardiner suggested, should be the means of enabling the union to work with greater efficiency and give greater interest in the union 's activities in the district.

The executive decided to adopt the ideas, but deferred, the appointment of members of the sub-committees until i later date.
