Reed. 10 a.m. RUGBY, Sept. 16. The Post Office Savings Bank opened 75 years ago to-day. From its beginning the bank made uninterrupted progress. When the bank was opened in 1861, 3CO Post Offices were authorised to conduct savings bank business. Within three months, the number was 1700 and to-day it is 16,500. There are now some 10,0007000' depositors and the total amount owned by them exceeds £414,000,000. lhe average deposit, of £4l comparp with £3l, five years ago, an indication both of the more prosperous condition of the country and the increased popularity of the savings bunk.
