NEW TURBINES
ARAPUNI INSTALLATION i GOOD PROGRESS MADE A staff of 200 men is still engaged at Arapuni in preparing the foundations for two new turbines to be installed to cope with the increased demainj for power from the Arapuni hydro-electrical station. Most of the machinery, comprising the turbines and generators, has arrived, and the bottom sections have been placed in position in their concrete beds. Satisfaetoiy progress is being made with the work, which will take some months to complete.
It has been found necessary to enlarge many of the sub-stations in order to meet the growing needs- of the areas they serve. In common with the power boards in South Auckland, the Public Works Department has had a great deal of difficulty in obtaining adequate deliveries of hardwood poles from Australia, and m consequence numerous extensions have been delayed. Supplies of poles- are now coming forward more, satisfactorily, and a large maintenance staff is engaged.
