SPECIAL MEASURES G OVENMENT’ ,S PLANS (Parliamentary Report er.) WELLINGTON, this day. Special measures for the control of ragwort are being planned by the Department of Agriculture next season in some districts most seriously invaded. The annual report of the department states that as vet completely satisfactory economic, control had not been evolved in regard to the central portions of the North Island, but a definite improvement had been effected by the use of sodium chlorate and the grazing of sheep.

Variegated thistle in parts of the North Island, particularly on the East Coast, the report, adds, and sweet briar in parts of the £touth Island have been spreading, and special attention is to be given to their control. The apathy of certain landholders has necessitated considerable attention to other important woods surli as blackberry; gorse, and Californian thistle. To date 15 counties have assumed ■control of the administration of the Noxious Weeds Act within their areas.'
