MR. JOHN REES JONES News of the death on August 28 of Mr. John Rees Jones, aged 82 years, at bis residence, 17 View street, Wollongong, New South Wales, will be read with widespread regret by the large number of residents with whom he came in contact while living in Gisborne. After serving bis time as apprentice, Mr. Jones spent several years as engineer out in the bush, later joining the. Rosina, a vessel trading between Gisborne and Auckland. After a short time aboard the Rosina, Mr. .Tones gave up the sea as a career and 4-3 years ago took a position on the engineering staff of Messrs. Nelson Brothers at Tarulicru.

Subsequently ho went to the Kaiti freezing works, then owned by the Gisborne Freezing Company, of which Mr. Shelton was manager. The 'Gisborne Sheepi'armers’ Company, upon its formation, bought out Mr. Shelton, and the new company appointed .Mr. Jones as chief engineer and works manager, a position he held until 1920, when ho retired and moved to Auckland, and later to Australia.

Deceased, who was held in the highest, esteem by the residents of this district, was of a retiring nature. The passing of Mr. Jones 'removes one who did valuable pioneering work in the frozen meat industry.
