SHOT TO PROVIDE ‘THRILL’

BLACK LEGION CHARGE “TRIGGER -MAN’S” STORY DETROIT. July 22. Negroes were shot to provided a “thrill” for members of the Black Legion, according to a confession lalleged to have been made by Dayton Dean, the “trigger man” of the organisation. The Black Legion is a secret society which is said to : have 0,000,000 members in the United States, and whose terroristic activities have been brought to light in the Michigan district.

Dean told the Detroit police to-day that some negroes were shot on May 25, 1935, because one of the leaders of the Black Legion wanted “to-see how it felt to shoot a negro. It did not matter who the man was so long as lie was coloured.” This man is now in custody on a charge of being involved in the murder of the negro Charles Poole, a Government relief worker.

Dean said that Poole was lured to a lonely spot and shot to furnish “somo excitement” for some of the legionnaires.
