REBELS AGAIN REPULSED
BATTLE FOR IRUN FRENCH LIVES IN DANGER NEUTRAL ZONE PROPOSAL (F.loc. Tol. Copyright—United Press Assn.) (Reed. Aug. 29,-2.p.m.) LONDON, Aug. 28. A heavy artillery exchange, followed by fierce hand-to-hand fighting occurred at Iran this evening, but the, rebels were again repulsed. The battle began around the Church of San Magcila, which was manned by Government forces who were supported by artillery batteries. Rebel planes blew up a road leading to the eliureh, aitei which tlie, rebels advanced. Halid grenades and dynamite bombs were used by both sides with devastating ell eel.. Waves of Moroccans and Fascists stormed the crest in the, face of machinegun fire, with heavy casualties. the rebels withdrew and began bombarding Iran with shells. Bullets fell in French territory and a French girl was killed. One shell landed near Hendaye station. Because of the danger to the lives of citizens, it is understood that the I remit Government proposes to demand the establishment of a- neutral zone to ensure safety on French..soil.
