OBITUARY

MISS MARIE RANDAL (Special to the Herald.) WAIROA, this day. News reached Wairoa last night of a death that had occurred in Auckland that day. Mr. and Mrs. L. S. Randal, the former of the merchandise department of Messrs. Dalgety'and Company, left for Auckland early in the week on holiday, taking with them their only child, Marie, aged 13, who suddenly developed pneumonic influenza, which has been prevalent in Auckland lately. She passed away on Friday. The child was well advanced in her musical studies, and her deatli was a great blow to her parents, who have the sympathy of many friends in their bereavement. The body is being brought back to Wairoa for interment. MISS ADELINE BROWN The death occurred in the Cook Hospital yesterday of Miss Adeline Doris Brown, aged 31. The late Miss Brown was born in Gisborne and was educated at the Te Hapara and Waipaoa schools. On the closing of the Waipaoa freezing works she came to live in Gisborne and had resided here ever since. Miss Brown enjoyed good health until two years ago. Deep sympathy will be extended to those who remain to mourn their loss. Besides her mother, Mrs. Brown, 94 Awapuni road, she is survived by two sisters, Mrs. H. C. Pilkington, 94 Awapuni road, and Mrs. £'. A. Rogers, Auckland, and one brother, Mr. Robert Brown, Palmerston North. The funeral will leave Cochrane’s private chapel, William street, at 3.15 p.m. to-morrow for the Taruheru cemetery.

In an obituary notice published in last night’s issue in connection with the death of Mrs. R. J. Stevens it was stated in error that the funeral was to take place to-day. Following a short service in St. Mary’s Church, Lowe street, the funeral will depart at 2 p.m. to-morroiv for the Taruheru cemetery.

Otoe of Opotiki’s oldest residents, Miss J. If. Abbot, died this week in her ninety-second year. Deceased, who was the daughter of the late Mrs. and Mr. George Abbot, of Dundee, Scotland, was horn on May 19, 1845. At the age of 30. accompanied by her sister, the late Mrs. C. Gonnolly. and her two brothers, Mr. R. T. Abbot and the late Mr. T. A. Abbot, she arrived in New Zealand in the sailing ship Fernglen in 1875. The two sisters and brothers went to Opotiki, deceased having lived there 61 years. .Miss Abbot and her sister were honoured by a special visit by the Duke of Gloucester when lie passed through Opotiki during his New Zealand tour, the Duke engaging the old ladies in conversation for several minutes.
