CLERICAL EMPLOYEES
NEWLY- FORMED UNION ('LATH'S FOR AWARD NORTHERN DISTRICT (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, this day. The Auckland Clerical and Office Staff Emplovees’ Industrial Union of \\ oi'kers, formed recently, has served claims for an award in the northern industrial district. If the.claim succeeds, thousands of offices in Auckland and centres as far distant as Gisborne will be covered bv the award. The union probably will he one ot ihp largest in New Zealand. The minimum wages sought- for male oft ire. assistants is 15 s for a worker commencing at the age of 14 years ; £1 and £1 5s for the first and second six months respect ivoiv at the age of 15: £1 10s and £!1 15s for the first and second period at, the age of 16; £2 and £2 7s 6d for l fie first and second period at the age of 17: thereafter rising in yearly stages to £6 15s at Hie age of 26: and thereafter on their merit at a higher scale for workers commencing at- later ages. If is asked that female clerks should be paid the same rate as males until they" receive £4 10s, and thereafter on their merits, with a commencing rate for junior typists of .£l, with six monthly increases. The rates' for typists range from .Co 5s at 21 years to £4 at 26, and for stenographers from £5 5s to £4 10s over the same period. The hours asked for are 38 a week, (t is also claimed that the employees, shall not be required to do- work for their employers in the latters’ homes, and that employers shall not seek to influence the private lives of their employees. .
