The original mile posts on the military road constructed from Auckland to Prurv ill iB6O arc being restored and indicated by signs erected by the Automobile Association (Auckland). A road was constructed south of Auckland and metalled as far as Drtiry to enable stores to be taken to the military redoubts during the Maori War, and it is stated that tlie mile posts wore erected by General Cameron's men. Although many were destroyed when the Great South road was concreted, some were preserved at the instigation of the Great South Road beautifying Society.
