TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIPS
TO BE HELD IN TIMARU OPPOSITION FROM CITIES N.JS. ASSOCIATION MEETS (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. There was considerable argument at the annual meeting of the New Zealand Lawn Tennis Association on the advisability or otherwise of holding the 1930-.T7 New Zealand championships in Timaru. The matter was introduced by an Auckland motion thai the resolution passed at the last council meeting recommending that the 1936-37 championship tournament should be held in Timaru be rescinded. The discussion proceeded practically on the basis or major versus minor associations, Auckland, Canterbury and Wellington supporting the motion, which eventually was carried. Later during the meeting, however, when a motion was put forward that the championships should be held in Christchurch, an amendment was moved by the South Canterbury delegate that it be a recommendation to the incoming management committee that they should be held in Timaru. The arrival of another delegate from a minor association at the meeting enabled the amendment to 'be carried, and thus the championships will be held in Timaru.
