SLIP CLEARED
WAIOEKA ROAD OPEN MAIL TRUCK DELAYED
The mail and freight truck which left Taneatua- overnight for Gisborne was eight hours, late in .reaching its destination, practically the whole of the time being lost in waiting for the clearance of a slip about five miles from Oponae, on the Opotiki side, in the Waioeka Vallev-
Tlie truck arrived at the slip at 2.15 a.m., and the driver found the road blocked for about 25ft. A gang of seven men were put to work on the slip as soon as possible, and the obstruction was sufficiently cleared for the truck to proceed by 9 o'clock to-day. There was a depth of about 9ft. of debris on the inner side of the road, and a good proportion of the clearing had still to be done when the- lorry proceeded, but the road was sufficiently open to permit ot normal traffic.
Several smaller slips were noted by the driver on this trip, but none was sufficient lo affect the time of the truck's trip. Creeks on the route were in good order, but rain had loosened the batter above the road in many spots.
