DIRECTOR APPOINTED PROF. JAMES SHELLEY SALARY OF £ISOO A YEAR (Per Presß Association.) WELLINGTON, last night. Professor .Tames .Shelley, of Canterbury University College, has been appointed director of broadcasting at an initial salary of £ISOO a year. The Prime Minister, as Minister for Broadcasting, said, in announcing the appointment, that Professor Shelley would begin his duties on December 1. Professor James Shelley, M.A., who has been appointed director of broadcasting in New Zealand, is well known to radio listeners, who have listened to his addresses from 3YA and to radio plays presented under his direction from the same station. He was born In Coventry 52 years ago, and was educated at Bablake School, Coventry,, and Christ's College, Cambridge. In 1907 he secured the post of assistant master at. Heanor Secondary School, and was in. the training college at Chester in ISOB, while in 1910 lie secured the post of lecturer in education at the Manchester University. He served as a major in the Royal Field Artillery, and was later chief instructor at the War Office school of education. He was professor of education at Southampton College in 1914. In 1920 he came to New Zealand as professor of education at Canterbury College, Christchurch, where he is dean of the faculty of mental and moral sciences and director of extension work.
