Quotations for ox beef at the West Held stock sale today were the best since November, 197.0. extra choice bringing 36s per 1001 b. First, class quality was offered in a slightly larger yardingi Than last. week. Mixed' quality cows and heifers were available at firm recent values. Choice and prime ox. sold from 32s to 34s per 1001 b : secondary and plain, 29s to 31s; prime cow and heifer. 32s to 34s per 1001 b; and ordinary, 21s io 28s. Extra heavy prime steers made £l4 15s to £l7 10s, the highest price for some seasons, and one line averaged £ls 5s each ; heavy. £l3 to £l4; lighter £ll 10s to £l2 10s'; light £lO 5s to £11; small and unfinished' £3 10s to £9 10s; extra heavy prime cows and heifers £9 5s to £10: hcavv. £8 to £9: lighter, £6 5s to £7 10s: oilier killable £3 10s to £5. The sheep numbers were below requirement s. resulting in a further improvement in prices by about. 3s a head. Tim quality generally'was good, although proportionately inferior to that recently offered. INSUFFICIENT SUPPLY OF HOGGETS In a ready sale for an insufficient supply of average quality hoggets, the rates advanced. Extra heavy made from 30s to 40s- heavy. 26s to 30s 3d; medium, 24s to 27s off; light, 22s to 25s 3d ; small and plain. 13s to 235; spring lambs, 32s to 365. Calves-were sold at firmer prices. Pigs in average numbers were auctioned, but the demand was less keen and values receded a shade. To-day's sale at Addington was very satisfactory for vendors, values for beef being the highest for a number of years, whilst fat sheep and nearly all other classes of stock met, with a tinner demand. Due mainly to the. short entry, there was an average advance of £2 a head in the fat. cattle values. There were only 345 penned. Best heel' made lo 40s per 1001 b. ; and good 1 from 35s to 37s 6d. Prime heavy steers realised from £ls to £2l 7-", 6d; good medium weights, £l2 to £l4; and light, and ordinary, £8 10s to £ll. P>est heifers sold from C 9 to £ls; and best cows £9 to £l3 12s 6d. Fat sheep.—ln all 4500 were penned. Wethers were better by Is 6d a head, also heavv ewes. Lighter were 'unchanged. Best, wethers made 34s 10 435; prime medium weight, 30s to 3.35; best ewes, 28s to 375; good. 25s to 275: light and ordinary. 20s to 245. Store sheep.—There was a very small entry and a steady sale. F..wes and lambs, all counted,' sold at. up to 35s 3d; ewe lambs to 31s 6d and s.m. ewes to 28s 6d. Fat. pigs.—There was a sharp advance in the price of porkers, which made front 34s 6d to 49s 6d; average price per lb. 53d to 6Jd. Baconers made 52s 6d to £5 5s 6d. The porker sale was one of the best of the year.
