MEETING IN TE ARAROA WORK OF OFFICERS (Herald Correspondent.) The July meeting of the Waiapu Hospital .Board was hold at To Araroa. oil Monday. There were present Messrs. A. J. 11. Kirkham, chairman, A. W. Kirk, A. B. Williams, H. Williams, M. Hyland, W. F. iMetealfe, C. R. E. Wood and V. G. 11. Rickard. The secretary, Mr. J. Todd, and tlie medical superintendent, Dr.' N. R. Mackay, were in attendance. An apology for absence was received from Mr. W. H. 0. Johnston. A letter from the Public Works-Em-ployees’ Medical Association, Napier, was tabled inquiring if the board was prepared to enter into agreements regarding charges for hospital treatment. —This was held over for further consideration. The board received a letter from the Rev. J. J. Anderson conveying the thanks of the parish for the use of Te Araroa Hospital as a. mission house. Advising the board that he might not be able to commence duty on August 31, Dr. E. C. "Grant, Denniston, wrote that he was unable to obtain at present a locum tenens to carry on his own work. It was decided to ask Dr. Grant if he could advise the board of the date when ho would most likely be free. MONTHLY REPORTS The medical superintendent- submitted his reports for June and July. The June report showed that 3i patients were admitted to the Waiapu Hospital during the month, 30 discharged, and 24 remained on June 30 There had been 18 operations. During July 41 patients had been admitted to the institution, 38 discharged. and there had been three deaths. At the end of the month 25 patients remained, while 20 operations had been performed. The matron at the hospital, Miss 1. Cornish, reported the resignation of Miss D. Larsen, and notified the board that Miss R. Austin, Otoko, had been appointed to fill the vacancy. Miss Cornish also acknowledged with thanks the donation of illustrated papers from Mrs. E. King. Waitakaro; illustrated papers from Mr. A. J. Kirkham, and one bundle of papers given anonymously, for tile use of the patients The Tikitiki district nurse, Nurse I. Banks, reported that, during July, 50 Maori patients were treated and 62 treatments (Maori) were given. Four Maori and two European maternity cases had been attended and she visited eight pas and eight native schools, four with the doctor. Infants seen totalled 11, and attendances 15, while three cases of antenatal advice had been given and lour post-natal. Whooping cough and mumps prevailed in the district. During the month Nurse Banks gave a lecture on ■‘Home Nursing,” to the Ruatoria Women’s Institute, and talks on ‘‘First aid splints and attention to patient” were given to three schools. Fees collected totalled £3 ss.

The district nurse stationed at Te Araroa, Nurse Af. Afangakahia, reported that three Europeans and 60 Afaoris had been treated during July and 19 European and 66 Maori treatments had been given. There had been one Alaori maternity "case and four infants seen and four attended. Four ante-natal and four postnatal cases received advice, and she visited three native schools during the month.
