PROPOSED WAGE INCREASE

HANDICAP TO INDUSTRY MENACE TO RMPLOVERS CHHTSTCHURCH PROTEST (Per Press Association.) CHUISTCITURCII, last night. The t'hristchurch Employers' Association has made representations to the Government on its announced m tention to introduce legislation next week to restore the 1931 wages rate; and other award conditions. The association considers that then will be a most unfortunate disturb ance of existing award conditions am. argues that the legislation already existing provides the workers with ample facilities for obtaining .wage rates and improvement in conditio.is and that the proposed legislation, .01 top of the amendments to the Factone and Shops and Offices Acts, the 40-houi week and the basic wage will plac( industry .in a condition of chaos and thus jeopardise the employment ot hundreds of workers and the ven existence of business itself. The association contends that the 1931 wages were sustained by the 193 price levels for exported produce, bu that the present price levels will not support the 1031 wages.
