ENGINEER'S "REPORT (Herald Correspondent.) At the Wairoa County Council meeting this week the assistant engineer.. Mr. R. W. Hawthorne, in addition to reporting fully on the main highways, Mated:— < ■ . "Maraetaha road metalling.—l havt. made an estimate for metalling the ur.inetalled length of the Maraetaha road from the end of the present metal to the county boundary between the Wairoa and Cook comities. Tito length to be metalled is approximately 65 chains'-and would require 660 cub. yds. of metal. The cost of the work would be £460 by using Nuliaka pit metal And £396 by using knapped metal from "the . Nuhaka River. This estimate is based' on the usual public works standardof 12 cub. yds. of metal per enam. "Road access to Waihna Beach.— There is a legal road which gives access to tni» beach through property at present leased by Mr. Mehaka Tumataroa.
