RAIL-OAR'S FAST RUN

TRIP TO NAPIER

The rail-car made a special trial run from Wellington to Napier on Sunday, leaving Wellington at 9.17 a.m. Great interest was taken in the trip all through the new territory from Palmerston North to Napier, where the railcar had not previously run. Crowds assembled at all the stations along the route and also beside the line.

At Pukehou the Te Auto College boys were addressed by the Minister of Railways, the Hon. t>: G. Sullivan, bv the Minister of Mines, the Hon. P. 0. Webb, and by Mr. G. H. Mackley, general manager of railways. The party was welcomed by Mr. H. M. Christie, M.P.. for Waipawa. Reference was made by Mr. Sullivan to the historical association of the Maori race with the railcar Maahunui.

The rail-car also stopped at Waipukurau and at Hastings, where 2000 people watched its arrival.

At Napier, the Hon. W. E. Barnard, Speaker of the House of Representatives, introduced the party, and Messrs. Sullivan, /Webb and Mackley spoke on the development of the rail-car and what it meant to modern transport.

The rail-oar made a fast passage back from Napier, leaving at 5.44 p.m. and arriving at Wellington a,t 11.35 p.m. Thirtv-four minutes were spent in stops. The 400 miles were covered without incident and the rail-car worked perfectly.
