DESCENT TO 18,000 FT,
(Reed, .lune 15, 2.50 p.m.) IjOkDON, June 14. A . message sent by Air.. Hugh Riittledge, the leader of the Everest expedition, from the North Face camp tonight says that Messrs. F. S. Smythe and P. Wyn Harris completed a valuable reconnaissance on the west side of the North Col, but heavy snow covering Mount Everest is driving the party from this high camp, which was established at an altitude of 20,000 ft.
".Wc are descending to Camp No, 1 at 18,000 ft. »ntl thence are. sending a .detailed report of .our .conclusions when Lieut. W. R- Smith-Windham has reopened the main wireless," concludes the message. -.;■_ : . v
