CRIPPLED CHILDREN
WILSON HOME ENDOW-
MENT
The. reopening until August, 1 of the Mayor of Auckland's Fund for Crippled Children, which was closed on April 30, was announced a few days ago by the Mayor, Mr. Ernest Davis. The Mayor stated that the. sum now in hand for the endowment of the Wilson Home for Crippled Children was £21,077, of which .£13,622 represented cash and £7755 promises, hut it would not justify the acceptance of Mr. and Mrs. W. 'R. Wilson's gift. The benefit of the home to the crippled children of New Zealand was likely to he lost unless a further £IO,OOO was raised. The cost of keeping a j crippled child in the home would bo at least £BS a year, so that with accommodation for 30 children the annual income required was £2.550. Invested at 3£ per cent, the funds now available, together with Lord Nuffield'* Trust of £IO.OOO, .which was intended for the purpose, would give the home an annual income of, say, £I2OO. The funds could not therefore be considered sufficient to endow the home.
