One of the largest shoals of sprat which has ever been trapped in the Calliope Dock was imprisoned on -Monday when H. M. & Wellington was being docked. When the dock was being pumped dry some four hours later, a writhing mass, of fish could be seen on the floor. It was decided to leave them in a few inches of water over-night until arrangements could be made for their disposal A large number ol people, including a fair sprinkling of children, took away large supplies of the herring, but the quantity of fish in the clock was so large (hat they made but little impression. Workers, who have, been employed at the dock over a long period, said it was many vears since they had seen so many fish irapp«l at theone title.
