One of the largest shoals of sprat which has ever been trapped in the Calliope Dock was imprisoned on -Monday when H. M. & Wellington was being docked. When the dock was being pumped dry some four hours later, a writhing mass, of fish could be seen on the floor. It was decided to leave them in a few inches of water over-night until arrangements could be made for their disposal A large number ol people, including a fair sprinkling of children, took away large supplies of the herring, but the quantity of fish in the clock was so large (hat they made but little impression.
