DAY’S RUM OF 747 MILES

VOYAGE OF QUEEN MARY FRENCH RECORD BROKEN ATLANTIC WEATHER FINE (Elec. Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn.) (Recti. May .10, 11 a,m.) LONDON, May 29. The Canard-White Star liner, the Queen Mary, on the way from Southampton to New York, broke the record of the, French vessel, the Normandie, for a full day’s run, covering 747 miles.

Finer weather on the Atlantic encourages correspondents aboard to predict that the liner will to-day touch 30 knots. Official figures hitherto are not available.

A stowaway discovered in the engine room of the Queen Mary, named Fran Gardner, aged 41, unemployed, of Cardiff, was given work as a kitchen hand.

The Queen Mary, owing to the hundreds of journalists aboard continuously transmitting messages, has broken the record for the greatest volume of wireless traffic from Atlantic liners. Her 10 aerials, constructed to deal with 6000 words daily, are handling 15,000 words daily exclusive of broadcasts and telephone calls.
