Mr. .T. H. Reid lias been elected chairman of the Opotiki County Council for a further term.

Mr. A. L. Komp, Ruatoria, left Gisborne this morning on a holiday to Auckland. He expects to be away for a fortnight. Mr. G. Nelson, chief postmaster at Gisborne, is on annual leave. He is being relieved by Mr. G. Clark, Wellington. Mr. M. Robertson, Hawke's Bay representative on the Fruit Export Control Board, and Mr. C. G. Wilkinson, branch manager at. Hastings for the New Zealand Fruitgrowers’ Federation, who have been in Gisborne for the past few days, left, to-day on their return home. The representative of the Cook County Council on the Gisborne Chamber of Commerce, Cr. E. H. Baker, yesterday' asked the council to relieve him of that post, and was thanked for his past services. Cr. S. T. Gray was appointed to fill the vacancy. Major-General Sir William L. 11. Sinclair-Burgess, General Officer commanding the New Zealand Forces, arrived in Gisborne last evening, accompanied by Colonel Standisli, officer commanding the Central. Military Command, in which Gisborne is included. They were engaged to-day in inspecting the annual camp of the W.E.C.M.R. Regiment at the .showgrounds, and will leave to-morrow' on their return to Wellington.
