LABOUR PARTY DISPUTE

FAITH IN MR. GARDEN CONSTITUENCY COUNCIL SYDNEY, May 25. Mr. J. S. Garden, won the second round of the fight with the executive of the State Labour Party in a decisive manner. The electoral council, in his constituency, namely Cook, passed a motion of confidence in him by 45i votes to 5. It was also decided to convene a special conference of the metropolitan electorate councils on June 7 preparatory to demanding a special conference of the Labour Party delegates of the whole State in order to discuss Mr. Garden’s case and other matters affecting the Labour movement in New South Wales. It is now considered that the fight for control of the organisation lias begun iu real earnest. The party managers take a serious view of the situation.

The executive of the New South Wales State La Dour Party decided 1 on May 18 to expel Mr. J. P. Garden, M.P., from the party on the grounds that he had failed to substantiate allegations of disloyalty on the part of tho president Dir. P* J. Keller, and the organising secretary, Mr. J. B. Martin," and that the charges made by Mr. Garden were disruptive and likely to impair the unity of the party. Mr. Garden declared that he would appeal against the decision to the next Easter conference of the party.
