FATALITY AT MIDNIGHT
GIRL KILLED ON ROAD FIVE PERSONS INJURED .MOTOR CYCLE HITS TARTY (Per Press Association.) PALMERSTON X., this tiny. A shucking- accitietit occurred on Raiigitikei Line, near Awahuri, aftet' midnight this morning, when a motorcycle collided with » party of young people who were returning home from a dance.
One girl was killed, one girl injured, and four young men were injured, two gravely. The victims are : —DeadMerle Campbell, aged 16 years, a daughter of Mr. A. F. Campbell, fanner, of Awahuri. —lnjured William Richard Paul, aged 20 years. a son of Mr. F. Paul, farmer, of Raiigitikei Line, head injuries, condition critical. .lack Telford, aged 19 years, farm hand, employed on Raiigitikei Line, head injuries, condition critical. L. Kwart. aged 19 years, farm hand, employed on Raiigitikei Line, head injuries*, serious. .Jack Bracken, aged 20 years, living at Awahuri, abrasions and possible bin i» injuries. Dulcie Camp! ell, aged 17 years, facial abrasions. The Misses Campbell, in company with another sister, Dorothy, and accompanied by Bracken, after attending ■•■ dance at Awahuri, were walking home on the left side of the road when they were overtaken by the motor-cycle, ml which were Paul! Telford and Kwart, The pedestrians were walking in pairs. Bracken and Dulcie Campbell were >n front of Merle and Dorothy Campbell. The motorcycle- swept Merle away. killing her practically instantaneously and "missing Dorothy Campbell by inches. She escaped unhurt. Bracken and Dulcie were carried off their feet over a bank on the edge of the load, iloth were injured. Meanwhile, the motor-cycle crashed. causing injuries to the riders as staled. An ambulance and a doctor were called to the scene. The three motor-cyclisls were removed to the Palmerston North Hospital. Bracken is entering the institution this morning for treatment.
