SCOTTISH MARRIAGE
INQUIRY INTO LAWS
GLASGOW, Feb. 5,
Irregular marriages, which f<K some time have been a subject of controversy in Scotland, were discussed when the committee appointed to inquire into the marriage laws of Scotland ,~held its first session in Ldinburgh to-day. fcprd-Wark, giving evidence, said there- were great disadvantages attached to certain of the recognised methods of- irregular marriages. He expressed the view that it would be desirable- to have irregular marriages carried through before some authorised person, as was tho procedure in England. Some supervision of marriage agents/he added, was perhaps required, and he saw no reason for altering the age •of consent from .10 years. "I <lo not see why there should be mienW consent at all," he said. ".Persons who are' .10 years of age arc quite capable of determining whom tnej should live with.' '
