PRISONER IN GERMANY
CHARGE OF ESPIONAGE YOUNG AUSTRALIAN LONDON, April-5. "Suspect," a vivid account of his four years' imprisonment in German gaols and prison camps during the war, by Allan Strawbridge, will be published shortly. Mr. Strawbridge is a son of the late Surveyor-General of South Australia. He was arrested on a false charge of espionage in 1914.
Mr. Allan Strawbridge, who was born in South Australia, was articled to an Adelaide architect. He left for England when he was about 21 to study painting. He was painting in Lichtenberg in 1914, when, soon after the outbreak of war, he was arrested as a spy. Mr. Strawbridge was detained in various prison camps in Germany throughout the war, and has not since revisited Australia. He now lives near London. Several of Mr. Strawbridge's paintings have been hung in the National Gallery, London.
