ROAD RATING OPPOSED
ALTERNATIVE SUGGESTED USB OF MOTOR TAXES (Per Frets Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. A remit adopted yesterday by the annual conference of the New Zealand Labour Party was: "That this conference, being" of the opinion that the method of rating for roading purposes in principle and inequitable in operation, urges the abolition of this form of taxation, and, as an alternative, suggests that the revenue required should be obtained by the application of a petrol, tyre and motor tax imposed entirely for this purpose."
The committee made an added recommendation that the points raised in the remit be referred to the Cabinet for consideration when the Government is dealing with the question of local body legislation
