EASTER WEDDINGS

FEW IN GISBORNE AUCKLAND'S BUSY TIME Gisborne had a. comparatively slack period for marriages during Easter. This is a distinct contrast, to'..the experience in other part's,' notably" Auckland, where both ministers and registrar were busy. Marriage licenses issued in the city during April showed a large increase over the corresponding period last year. In Gisborne only three licenses have been issued since the beginning of the month, but this is not a true indication of the number of marriages taking place, because a license holds good for three months. Last month's figures were much larger than in March last year, and some of these licenses may have been taken out well in advance of the occasion.

It is also pointed out that for a number of marriages in Gisborne licenses are taken out by the bridegroom who is resident in another place, and many who go elsewhere to be married secure their licenses in the town where they intend to be married.

The number of marriages actually per'forined in Gisborne over the Etister period" has not been large, according to reports. The ministers have not been overtaxed in this connection, and the registrar has performed no marriages since the commencement of the holiday period,'
