MAN SAVES FROM "CHAIR"
ARREST (IF 'DOUBLE NEW YORK, March 5. George Hayes, aged 21, in New York's' dreaded Tombs Prison since January 8 with the shadow of the electric chair hanging over him, has been saved—by the" arrest, of his double. He was identified as a hold-up man who shot dead a grocery shop assistant. Hayes protested his innocence. He tried to produce alibis. ' The series of robberies had slopped since his arrest.. The police were convinced they had the murderer. But a week ago there was another robbery.
To-diiv detectives arrested John Farley. Although he did not know Haves, he. was his exact double. After third-degreeing him, they extracted confession to the murder. George Hayes will go free tomorrow.
