DEAF AND BLIND PIANIST
"THRILLS" OF "SIGHTSEEING" NEW YORK.. Feb. 23. Miss Helen -May Martin, of Merriam, Kas., said to be tho only person both deal' and blind who has become a concert pianist, arrived yesterday on. her lirst visit to New York. Through her mother, Mrs. Helen Martin, who acted as interpreter, she said she was experiencing "all the thrills" the city has for a person here for the first time. She said she expected to spend all her spare time in "sightseeing" during the week she is here. Miss Martin has been playing the piano for 14 years, she said. She plays mostly classical music, and most of her concerts are held in churches. 'Since she started playing she has given concerts in 27 States. She also likes to attend concerts. She "hears" them through vibrations received by touching the piano with her finger tips.
