SPLENDID RIDER
TEN-YEAR-OLD GIRL JUMPS TAKEN 13AREBACK A little girl of 10, riding bareback on a 20-year-okl white pony, won tho juvenile championship at the Easter Show at. Wellington, with a performance that gained her the approbation of the judges and the applause of the crowd, "Yon could travel all round both islands without [hiding a rider with a belter seat, "said Mr. A. Gillanders, of North Canterbury, who judged the class. "The little girl was worthy of Hie most favourable mention, and the white horse was probably one of the finest jumpers you would find in New Zealand, Their performance in the wire jump on the preceding day was perfect." The young rider was Betty Ferguson, of Kauwhatau, near Mangaweka. Her mount was Mr. J.. Goodwin's Rajah, from the same locality. Betty rushed him gamely over the hurdles, Brush and log jumps, with a nerve and skill that were not. surpassed in any of the grown-ups present. Having won the open wire jump and pony class on. Monday, she added to her laurels next day the pony jumping championship and second honours in the musical chairs competition. Betty has never ridden in saddle or stirrups.
