RECORD PEACE-TIME VOTE
NAVY BUILDING MOOTED
WASHINGTON, March 9
The House to-day approved a record peace-time' army .appropriation of £106,000,000, including £1,400,000 for fortifications at Hawaii, Panama Canal, and on the Pacific Coast.
The chairman of the appropriations sub-committee said it is prepared to report a £180,000,000 Naval Bill providing for the construction of 333 aeroplanes, 12 destroyers, six submarines and other craft. It is understood that the Navy Department has urged the committee, in the event of the collapse of the London conference, to authorise the early construction of the largest battleships the world has ever seen.
