BUSINESS REQUESTS
MINISTER'S COMMENT
(Per Press Association,} WELLINGTON, this day. Replying to appeals by businessmen for less Government interference in business, the Minister of Indhstries and Commerce, the Hon. D. G. Sullivan, at the Wellington Chamber of Commerce annual meeting last night, said that the number of men who asked him for interference in their businesses was staggering.
Businessmen seemed to him to speak with a multitude of voices. He read a list of over a dozen requests received for action in governing industries in one form or another, ranging from fixing the prices of flour, bread and benzine to those'of beer, meals and funerals, ine Government, with the best intentions in the world, would have great difficulty in discovering what businessmen really wanted.
The Government had no intention of striking out on a wholesale price fixation policy. “We will investigate where necessary and go *y/here facts lead us in the way we believe to.be in the best interests of the community,’’ said Mr. Sullivan.
