MANUTUKE W.I.

ANNUAL MEETING

Tliere was a good attendance at the Manutuke Women’s Institute’s annual meeting, and despite the doubtful weather the hall was made cheery within by bowls of beautiful dahlias. The annual report was read, and, in moving the adoption of the balance-sheet, it was explained that, though the credit balance was lower than .in previous years, the assets were comparatively high for the membership of 35. Several cash donations had been made to charitable organisations. A vote of thanks was accorded to Mr. R. Piercy, who had audited the books since the beginning of the institute.

Mrs. McCliskie was again elected as president, but in view of the fact that she has occupied the chair for the past three years, the committee lias agreed to take the chair in rotation for the coming year. In her address to the meeting, Mrs. McCliskie said :—“I feel I have been supported in the true women’s institute spirit, and that is why our meetings have always been so happy. It is gratifying, too, to see the work that can be accomplished by hearty eo-opera-tioa.”

The poem, “Comrades,” in which Mrs. ,T. Pine has so neatly embraced the principles of the women’s institute, was read.

The following committee was elected, under the supervision of Misses Friar and Marshall: Mesdanies Atkins, Calcott, lie very, Kane, Hamilton, McCliskie, Langford, Piercy, Buckley and Robcke, and Miss M. Atkins.
