FIRE AT MEAT WORKS
Slight damage was caused by a lire that broke out on the third floor of R. and W. Hellaby. Limited'* freezing chamber building at the company's meal works at Wcstfield. Auckland, on Friday evening.
A blow lamp which was being used by workmen to repair the door to an old .chamber ignited some bitumen, the gaseous fumes of which caused a flame that flashed back into the chamber. The chamber was lined with cork, which was packed with bitumen lining. ami immediately the front portion caught lire. The workmen had the presence of mind to slam the door so as to stifle the outbreak, an.l the door was kept shut until the brigades arrived. Donning smoke helmets, the hrigadeslnoii entered the chamber, ami a tew minutes' work resulted in the fire being put out.
