KING PROCLAIMED ; DOMINION NOTIFIED PLANS FOR CEREMONY SWEARING-IN PROCEDURE OATH OF ALLEGIANCE (Pej- Press Association.) WELLINGTON, last night. A Gazette' 'Extraordinary issued to-day contains the .proclamation of the accession of King Edward VIII. The Governor-General directs that the following formalities be observed in .connection therewith: "That the proclamation be publicly read in front of Parliament Buildings at 11 a.m. on Thursday, January 23; that in the case of public'and private buildings and ships, all flags be mast-headed from 11 a.m. until sunset on Thursday, and thereafter be at halfmast until after the funeral, and that, the public be requested to observe a holiday between 10 a.m. and noon on Thursday. The Prime Minister, the Hon. M. J. Savage, has received through His Excellency the Governor-General, a telegram from the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, dated January 21, as follows: "The proclamation of His Majesty, King Edward VIII, was signed at the Accession Council today. ■ , I Pull mourning for the late King George V will be observed officially until after the funeral next Tuesday by Mr Savage, who has-cancelled all social engagements. It was announced to-day that although the Prime Minister had agreed to present the cup to the winner of the principal race at the Wellington'.Racing Club's meeting, which opens to-morrow at Trentham, Mr Savage has decided not to attend the races.

In the case of Legislative Councillors and members of Parliament, they will be sworn in at the opening of the first session of the new Parliament. Representatives of Crown and' Ministers take the oath of allegiance to the reigning monarch, his heirs and successors. ,

Additional, cabled messages of sympathy in the death of King George V were received to-day by the Premier, the Hon. M. J. Savage, as follows: From the Consul-General for Chile at Sydney, Mr. 11. Dundas Smith: "The passing away of the beloved King of Great Britain and Emperor of India is profoundly felt with immeasurable sorrow by this Consulate-General and all subjects of Chile. Our deepest sympathy is respectfully offered to you and the people "of New Zealand in your bereavement and great sorrow." From Senor Quiros, Consul for the Republic of. Panama: "In the name of my Government and myself, I present to you and the people of New Zealand my respect and sympathy on the occasion of the death of your beloved King." From the Resident Commissioner of Cook Islands, Judge H. F. Ayson: "All the people of Cook Islands, both Maori and European, are deeply moved at the death of their beloved King, and desire you to convey an expression of their sorrow and sympathy to the Royal Fa'mily and the people of Great Britain." A Fiji message says the Governor will read the accession proclamation at 11 a.m. at Albert Park, Suva, to-morrow. Memorial services will be held at all churches Oh Friday. Both days will be observed as public holidays. The following cable has been received in Christchurch by Dr. P. Stanley Foster, governor of the fifty-third iDistrict of Rotary International: "Deepest sympathy to New Zealand Rotarians in the death of King Georee from Rotary International.—E. R. Johnson, president; C. R. Perry,vsecretary. Chicago." The chairman of the United Pres« Association, Sir Henry Horton, has reI ceived the following reply from Her Majesty's private secretary to the message of sympathy sent to Her Majesty the Queen: "I am commanded to express to members of the association the Queen's sincere thanks for their kind message of sympathy in her great sorrow."
